Saturday was a day full of devastation for fans of many bubble teams. But with all of the crazy bubble losses (I’m looking at you, SEC teams), somebody has to benefit. The teams whose bubble chances improved the most on Saturday were St. Mary’s, Boise St and Southern Miss. The bubble is simply ugly right now, which is encouraging for teams like Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee St and Belmont. If the bubble does not strengthen over the next two weeks, these teams could possibly get an at large bid.
Bubble teams had such a disappointing weekend that the first four are all 13-seeds with all of the 12-seeds being conference regular season champions of low-major conferences.
Atop the board appear three obvious 1-seeds (Indiana, Gonzaga, Kansas). The next 8 teams are very fluid from Duke to Michigan. As always conference tournaments will decide the 1-seeds and one loss could send even teams from the top line, all the way to a three seed.
Last four in: St. Mary’s, Baylor, Boise St, Kentucky
FIrst four out: Virginia, Southern Miss, Arizona St, Ole Miss
Next four out: Tennessee, Maryland, St. John’s, Alabama
The bubble picture was relatively clear on Friday, now it is an absolute mess.
