Conference tournaments have begun and the madness is here.
Akron and Louisiana Tech suffered devastating under the radar losses in conference play, that I will believe prevent them from achieving an at large bid if they were to falter in their respective tournaments. After an ugly loss, Wisconsin continues its downward spiral landing at a 6 seed.
New Mexico and Michigan State are both closer to the 1 line than you may think, New Mexico dominated the #1 RPI conference (yes, you read that correct). Michigan State’s 7 losses ultimately keep them from the one line, but reaching the BTT finals could be enough for them to be a 1 seed (likely if Duke did not win ACC tourney).
Ole Miss and Tennessee reluctantly rejoin the bracket, and quite frankly they do not have at large resumes. Having made the semis, I believe Wichita State and Creighton are both safe for at large bids, but another win certainly wouldn’t hurt. I’m starting to believe Middle Tennessee State and Belmont could be safe with losses in their tournament. There is a very large degree of separation between Boise and Ole Miss in the first four in category…
First four: Boise vs Tennessee, St. Mary’s vs Ole Miss
First four out: Baylor, Virginia, Kentucky, Arizona St
Next four out: So Miss, UMass, Iowa, St. John’s (ewwww)
