PPR-Ranks: Footballguys Tournament

Hello all. While full-point PPR leagues are not our preference at MWS, this year we are competing in the World’s Largest Fantasy Football Tournament: The Football Guys Tournament on MYFFPC.COM. The rules are available here: http://www.myffpc.com/footballguys-players-championship/rules.html but we will outline some of the main details so that our ranks are better understood.

Positions: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, Flex (W/R/T), Flex (W/R/T), TE, K, D/ST.

Scoring: 1 pt ppr, 1.5 pt ppr for TE’s (!), 20 pass yds=1 pt, pass tds=4 pts. Everything else pretty standard, except there is no trading in this league so often value if foregone, and playoffs start week 12, so players on a bye that week are devalued.. As always, we aren’t in the business of ranking kickers and d/st, because whatever. The draft is deep, 20 rounds, so our list includes a top 185. Below our ranks we will show our results. Although the scoring for this league is different, these ranks are still helpful for those participating in a PPR, merely move the tight ends much lower towards their standard ADP. ADP and PPG were calculated using Fantasypros.com, a great resource as you prepare for your draft. A

Our selections:

1-3: Arian Foster: Megatron went #2, and although we are in the minority, we prefer Foster to Doug Martin. Martin fell to 5, and Ray Rice to 10.

2-10: DeMaryius Thomas: Although his injury risk is still sizeable, picking outside of the top 20 leaves us with Peyton’s top weapon. AJ Green fell one pick before us, probably because of his week 12 bye (playoff semis). Chose Demaryius over Sproles and MJD, which might be regrettable.

3-3: Randall Cobb: Love this guy in a PPR format, he has a tremendous ceiling as Aaron Rodgers’ top target and could have 100 receptions and 1200 yards this season, justifying his selection in the early 3rd.

4-10 Frank Gore: Not a sexy pick at all, but the last RB of his tier around. Really hoped Gronk would fall to this spot, but he was snagged a few picks earlier (1.5 PPR for TE’s). Will gladly take Gore with mediocre backs: McFadden, Miller, Murray, Wilson, Lacy, Bell and Bernard all off the board. Solid value.

5-3 Aaron Rodgers: Yep! Brees fell two spots prior and without any hesitation I grabbed Rodgers with this pick. From the Fantasypros projections above the difference between QB1 and QB12 is only about 6 points per game, but Rodgers at 6 points above replacement in the fifth is an absolute steal.

6-10: Cecil Shorts: Hoping that Henne wins the QB competition. This is simply an upside pick, as the grand prize is $250,000. Shorts is sort of a poor man’s Victor Cruz.

7-3: Owen Daniels: I debated Daniels vs Bradshaw vs Ivory vs Daniels, but in this format TE’s are extremely valuable, and in hindsight I am very fortunate to have selected Daniels. I started a run of TE’s which included Cook, Finley, Cameron, Rudolph and Keller. Yea I like this pick.

8-10: Mike Williams: I love this pick, a solid rock opposite of the volatile Vincent Jackson. A solid pick as my final non-K/Dst Starter.

9-3: Josh Gordon: All about the upside! Loving the 5 WR’s on this team, hoping RBs hold up.

10-10: Jonathan Stewart: With where I ranked him I am shocked that I drafted Stewart, like Rodgers I think this was simply a bunch of experts trying to outsmart each other. JStew is not a horrible RB3.

11-3: Bernard Pierce: One Ray Rice injury away from being a top 10 fantasy player. Lotto ticket #1.

12-10: Dwayne Allen: Unfortunately has a week 8 bye like Daniels and an injury, but I think Allen could break out in Indy.

13-3: Jonathan Franklin: Lotto ticket #2.

14-10: Ryan Williams: Lotto ticket #3.

15-3: Denver Broncos: Eh third Def off the board.

16-10: Julius Thomas: Not even ranked above, but has some upside if he can emerge as Peyton’s top TE.

17-3: Big Ben: Yup

18-10: Kendall Hunter: No idea why James is going very far ahead of Hunter. IMO Hunter is the RB you want.

19-3: Legatron: Week 1 vs the Cardinals in a dome. I’ll take it.

20-10: Justin Forsett: Lotto ticket #4, for those unaware he is MJD’s backup.

Hopefully these ranks can help you in your PPR league! Check out fantasypros.com and myffpc.com as referenced in the article. Any questions/comments, tweet @manwithaspreads
